Honorary member No. 7 (2000) - Gunnar Kristiansen

This distinction has so far only been awarded to six people: King Harald V, Harald Misund, Kåre Johannesen, Knut Hoff, Terje Nilsen and Bjørn Erik Olsen. Each and every one of them has, in his own particular way, lived up to and fulfilled the demands that within reason can be made.

There are many similarities between the sea eagle and this year's candidate for honorary membership: "Like the sea eagle, he cares for the coming generation and does his utmost to ensure that they do not feel lonely and abandoned. Like the sea eagle, he spreads his protective wings over those who are small and vulnerable. He listens to their experiences and manages, in a genuine way, to empathise with them in their own particular situation.

Not everyone can earn the trust of young people. Our candidate, however, has done so on many occasions - a trust that he has not misused, but has followed up and by way of good advice and forewarning, has literally shown them the way forward. He has also been the comforter when they have met with problems along the way, encouraging them to take the first steps into the adult world, a journey that is not always that easy.

Like the sea eagle encourages its young to "leave the nest"  when the time is right.

On these grounds the Board of the Sea Eagle Club of Bodø unanimously recommends that

GUNNAR KRISTIANSEN be appointed honorary member No. 7 of the Sea Eagle Club of Bodø.
