Stock development
In 2008, the Norwegian sea eagle stock was estimated at 3,500 nesting pairs, although there are probably more. This constitutes over half of the European stock.

Before sea eagles were protected by law in Norway in 1968, they were persecuted and on the decline. The Norwegian stock was then probably less than 800 pairs, and no less than 40% of the world's stock was found in Nordland. After being protected, the Norwegian sea eagle stock has increased considerably, both in extent and number. In Nordland the nesting stock has probably reached its "saturation point". In Southern Norway there are still some vacant areas in the most southernly and inland regions.
